Many Storm Lake High School students have hobbies and talents about which they are passionate and gifted. For them, the dedication they give to their specific passion are what makes their school a diverse place. Everything from Jose Soto’s weightlifting to Madison Engelke’s award-winning singing makes Storm Lake High School a place where students exhibit a wide range of talents that increase its diversity.

Madison Engelke

Madison Engelke is a senior at Storm Lake High School. After getting involved with singing at a young age, Madison realized she had a passion she could no longer ignore.

Juan Espino

Juan is a junior trumpet player at Storm Lake High School. He uses his talent in jazz, concert and marching band. He recently participated in the Iowa Jazz Championship as well as the Storm Lake High School Swing Show. “It, like, releases my emotions, it relaxes me,” Espino says of playing his instrument.

Logan Musel

Logan is a junior at Storm Lake High School and comes from generations of musicians. He's a percussionist who is currently taking lessons to better his performance. He hopes to play professionally someday. “I didn’t choose percussion," he said. "It chose me.”

Jose Soto

Jose is a senior at Storm Lake High School who was introduced to weightlifting at the age of 15 by his brother.  He enjoys weightlifting as more than just a hobby. To him, it’s everything. It's a lifestyle. “Live your life or change it," he says. 

Kylie Sundine

Kylie is a junior at Storm Lake High School. She plays the flute and piccolo and along with that, she sings in choir. So you could say she is pretty musically talented. Kylie says, "Choir is my favorite [be]cause I like to sing the most and I made All-State last year.”

Brandon Xiong

Brandon is a senior at Storm Lake High School. He moved here a few years ago from Sacramento, CA, where urban street dancing was very common. With enough passion, he has kept it alive even in small town Storm Lake.
